Population density, survival and movement of blue crabs in estuarine salt marsh nurseries

MARINE ECOLOGY PROGRESS SERIES, 407, 135–U150.

author keywords: Blue crab; Callinectes sapidus; Mark-recapture; Survival; Salt marsh
TL;DR: The observed patterns of abundance, survival and habitat utilization of blue crabs within tidal salt marsh creeks in North Carolina are consistent with the hypothesis that salt marshcreeks are important nurseries for blue crabs, and suggest that crab densities may be even higher in salt marshes than previously thought. Evaluation of Methods for Identifying Spawning Sites and Habitat Selection for Alosines

NORTH AMERICAN JOURNAL OF FISHERIES MANAGEMENT, 30(2), 386–399.

TL;DR: Compared with spawning pads, oblique plankton tows had higher probabilities of collecting eggs and led to the identification of longer spawning periods, and twice-weekly plankton sampling for 15 min throughout the spawning season had a 95% or greater probability of collecting at least one egg for all alosines.
