Morphologic, pathologic, and genetic investigations of Bolbophorus species affecting cultured channel catfish in the Mississippi delta

JOURNAL OF AQUATIC ANIMAL HEALTH, 14(4), 235–246.

By: M. Levy n, . Flowers n, M. Poore n, J. Mullen n, L. Khoo*, L. Pote*, I. Paperna*, R. Dzikowski*, R. Litaker*

TL;DR: Genetic techniques used to identify all stages of the Bolbophorus parasite in all of its hosts revealed that there are two distinct species, B. damnificus (previously identified as B. confusus) and another, undescribed species; both species were found to infect the first intermediate host in commercial channel catfish ponds.
