This chapter surveys the state-of-the-art related to the building blocks of wearable cyberphysical systems for health monitoring and highlights its potential to revolutionize healthcare, specifically chronic disease management. The common sensing modalities and their corresponding wearable form factors are summarized for the application areas of cardiovascular diseases, asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The use of these measurements with estimation approaches using signal processing and machine learning techniques is also reviewed. The outcomes of these estimation tasks can be used to provide feedback internally to optimize device performance and externally to the users about their health situation. The chapter concludes with a discussion of deployment barriers for wearable cyberphysical systems in real life.
