Inhibition by platelets of in vitro blastogenic responses of canine PBMC by a PAF-dependent mechanism

Veterinary Immunology and Immunopathology, 52(3), 135–145.

author keywords: platelets; dogs; platelet activating factor; lymphocyte; blastogenesis
MeSH headings : Animals; Biopsy; Blood Platelets / parasitology; Blood Platelets / physiology; Centrifugation, Density Gradient; Dogs; Female; Filariasis / immunology; Leukocyte Count; Leukocytes, Mononuclear / physiology; Lymph Nodes / cytology; Lymphocyte Activation; Male; Phytohemagglutinins / pharmacology; Platelet Membrane Glycoproteins / antagonists & inhibitors; Receptors, Cell Surface; Receptors, G-Protein-Coupled
TL;DR: It was shown that PB MC purified on Ficoll gradients alone are contaminated with platelets and proliferate weakly compared with platelet-free PBMC purified on an additional Percoll gradient, suggesting that PAF is likely to be involved in the inhibition of in vitro proliferative responses of platelets-contaminated canine PBMC.
