A facile synthesis of 1,5-disubstituted-2-aminoimidazoles: Antibiotic activity of a first generation library

BIOORGANIC & MEDICINAL CHEMISTRY LETTERS, 21(15), 4516–4519.

By: T. Harris n, R. Worthington n & C. Melander n

author keywords: 2-Aminoimidazole; Amino aldehyde; Biofilm; Antibiotic
MeSH headings : Anti-Bacterial Agents / chemical synthesis; Anti-Bacterial Agents / chemistry; Anti-Bacterial Agents / pharmacology; Drug Resistance, Multiple, Bacterial / drug effects; Imidazoles / chemical synthesis; Imidazoles / chemistry; Imidazoles / pharmacology; Microbial Sensitivity Tests; Structure-Activity Relationship
TL;DR: An efficient synthetic route to 1,5-disubstituted 2-aminoimidazoles from readily available amino acids and aldehydes has been developed and several compounds were shown to exhibit notable antibiotic activity against a variety of bacterial strains including multi-drug resistant isolates. 2009 journal article

Estimating ancestral distributions of lineages with uncertain sister groups: a statistical approach to Dispersal-Vicariance Analysis and a case using Aesculus L. (Sapindaceae) including fossils

Journal of Systematics and Evolution, 47(5), 349–368.

By: A. Harris n & Q. Xiang n

author keywords: Aesculus; biogeography; DIVA; fossil wildcards; MrBayes; phylogenetic uncertainty
TL;DR: The DIVA‐Bayes approach to infer biogeographic histories without fully bifurcating trees was tested using Aesculus L., which has major lineages unresolved as a polytomy, and it was found that adding fossil wildcard taxa in phylogenetic analysis generally increased P for ancestral ranges including the fossil's distribution area.
