Effect of host plant ozone stress on Colorado potato beetles

ENVIRONMENTAL ENTOMOLOGY, 30(5), 824–831.

By: S. Costa n, G. Kennedy n & A. Heagle n

author keywords: Leptinotarsa decemlineata; potato; air pollution; ozone; Colorado potato beetle; host stress
TL;DR: Although present levels of tropospheric O3 are high enough to significantly affect yield of sensitive potato cultivars, the results indicate no significant effect of ambient O3 concentrations on Colorado potato beetle populations. (via Semantic Scholar)

Mortality of Colorado potato beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata) after sublethal stress with the CryIIIA delta-endotoxin of Bacillus thuringiensis and subsequent exposure to Beauveria bassiana

JOURNAL OF INVERTEBRATE PATHOLOGY, 77(3), 173–179.

By: S. Costa n, M. Barbercheck n & G. Kennedy n

author keywords: Bacillus thuringiensis; Beauveria bassiana; Leptinotarsa decemlineata; Colorado potato beetle; sublethal stress; susceptibility; endotoxin; entomopathogen; interaction; synergism
MeSH headings : Animals; Ascomycota / physiology; Bacillus thuringiensis Toxins; Bacterial Proteins / pharmacology; Bacterial Toxins; Coleoptera / drug effects; Coleoptera / microbiology; Disease Susceptibility; Endotoxins / pharmacology; Hemolysin Proteins; Mycoses / complications; Mycoses / mortality; Stress, Physiological / chemically induced; Stress, Physiological / complications; Stress, Physiological / physiopathology
TL;DR: Acute or chronic sublethal exposure of Colorado potato beetle larvae to the CryIIIA delta-endotoxin of Bacillus thuringiensis Berliner did not significantly alter their subsequent susceptibility to Beauveria bassiana (Balsamo) Vuillemin. (via Semantic Scholar)

Colorado potato beetle (Coleoptera : Chrysomelidae) feeding, development, and survival to adulthood after continuous exposure to Bacillus thuringiensis subsp tenebrionis-treated potato foliage from the field

JOURNAL OF ECONOMIC ENTOMOLOGY, 93(1), 149–156.

By: B. Nault n, S. Costa n & G. Kennedy n

author keywords: Colorado potato beetle; Bacillus thuringiensis subsp tenebrionis; feeding; development; survival
MeSH headings : Animals; Bacillus thuringiensis; Coleoptera / growth & development; Coleoptera / physiology; Colorado; Larva / growth & development; Larva / physiology; Pest Control, Biological; Solanum tuberosum
TL;DR: Reduced feeding and poor survival of late instars suggest that counts of large larvae after application do not provide a complete picture of the efficacy of the B. thuringiensis treatment, and development was prolonged in these insects because of ingestion of a sublethal dose of B.Thuringienis. Sublethal acute and chronic exposure of Colorado potato beetle (Coleoptera : Chrysomelidae) to the delta-endotoxin of Bacillus thuringiensis

JOURNAL OF ECONOMIC ENTOMOLOGY, 93(3), 680–689.

By: S. Costa n, M. Barbercheck n & G. Kennedy n

author keywords: Leptinotarsa decemlineata; Bacillus thuringiensis; sublethal stress; ECI
MeSH headings : Animals; Bacillus thuringiensis Toxins; Bacterial Proteins; Bacterial Toxins; Biological Assay; Coleoptera; Endotoxins; Female; Fertility; Hemolysin Proteins; Insecticides; Larva; Pest Control, Biological / methods
TL;DR: Sublethal exposure of Colorado potato beetle larvae to the δ-endotoxin of Bacillus thuringiensis variety tenebrionis caused a dose-dependent reduction in feeding and weight gain when tested in a leaf disk bioassay. (via Semantic Scholar)
