A latitudinal cline in flowering time in Arabidopsis thaliana modulated by the flowering time gene FRIGIDA

PROCEEDINGS OF THE NATIONAL ACADEMY OF SCIENCES OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, 101(13), 4712–4717.

By: . Stinchcombe n, C. Weinig n, M. Ungerer n, K. Olsen n, C. Mays n, S. Halldorsdottir n, M. Purugganan n, J. Schmitt n

MeSH headings : Arabidopsis / genetics; Arabidopsis / growth & development; Arabidopsis / physiology; Arabidopsis Proteins / genetics; Biological Clocks; Climate; Ecosystem; Flowers / genetics; Flowers / physiology; Genetic Variation; Light
TL;DR: The results suggest that the ecological function of the vernalization requirement conferred by FRI differs across latitudes, and indicate that by combining ecological and molecular genetic data, it is possible to understand the forces acting on life history transitions at the level of specific loci. Linkage disequilibrium mapping of Arabidopsis CRY2 flowering time alleles

GENETICS, 167(3), 1361–1369.

MeSH headings : Amino Acid Sequence; Arabidopsis / genetics; Arabidopsis / physiology; Arabidopsis Proteins / genetics; Base Sequence; Cryptochromes; Flowers / physiology; Gene Components; Genetics, Population; Haplotypes / genetics; Linkage Disequilibrium; Molecular Sequence Data; Photoperiod; Phylogeny; Polymorphism, Genetic; Sequence Analysis, DNA; Time Factors
TL;DR: This study demonstrates the utility of LD mapping for elucidating the genetic basis of natural, ecologically relevant variation in Arabidopsis by examining haplotype variation in the genomic region of the photoperiod receptor CRYPTOCHROME2 and associated flowering time variation.
