Ascenzi, R., Ülker, B., Todd, J. J., Sowinski, D. A., Schimeneck, C. R., Allen, G. C., … Thompson, W. F. (2003, June 1). Transgenic Research, Vol. 12, pp. 305–318.

By: R. Ascenzi n, B. Ülker n, J. Todd n, D. Sowinski n, C. Schimeneck n, G. Allen n, A. Weissinger n, W. Thompson n

author keywords: matrix attachment region; tobacco; transcriptional gene silencing; transgene expression; trans-silencing
MeSH headings : Gene Silencing; Inheritance Patterns; Matrix Attachment Regions / genetics; Seedlings / genetics; Sequence Homology; Silencer Elements, Transcriptional; Tobacco / genetics; Transcription, Genetic
topics (OpenAlex): Plant Virus Research Studies; Plant tissue culture and regeneration; Plant Molecular Biology Research
TL;DR: The results are consistent with a model in which transcriptional silencing is triggered by transcription of sequences during the early stages of embryo or seedling development. (via Semantic Scholar)

2002 article

E. coli chromosomal DNA in a transgene locus created by microprojectile bombardment in tobacco

Ülker, B., Weissinger, A. K., & Spiker, S. (2002, June 1). Transgenic Research.

By: B. Ülker*, A. Weissinger n & S. Spiker n

author keywords: DNA purity; E. coli chromosomal DNA; microprojectile bombardment; transformation; transgene locus
MeSH headings : Biolistics; Escherichia coli / genetics; Plants, Genetically Modified; Tobacco / genetics; Transgenes
topics (OpenAlex): CRISPR and Genetic Engineering; Animal Genetics and Reproduction; Chromosomal and Genetic Variations
TL;DR: In the process of characterising the integration site of a transgene in the tobacco genome, a 260 base pair fragment of E. coli chromosomal DNA was discovered despite the fact that standard procedures were implemented to remove contaminating E. bacteria from the plasmid DNA used in the transformation.
