Elevated prothrombin level and shortened clotting times in subjects with type 2 diabetes

Sauls, D. L., Banini, A. E., Boyd, L. C., & Hoffman, M. (2007, March).

By: D. Sauls*, A. Banini n, L. Boyd n & M. Hoffman*

MeSH headings : Blood Coagulation; Diabetes Mellitus, Type 2 / blood; Diabetes Mellitus, Type 2 / complications; Female; Humans; Male; Partial Thromboplastin Time; Prothrombin / metabolism; Risk Factors; Thrombosis / blood; Thrombosis / etiology
TL;DR: Whether the levels of prothrombin or other plasma clotting factors might play a role in the thrombotic tendency in diabetes, and whether DM subjects had shorter values than controls for the aPTT, is investigated. (via Semantic Scholar)

Muscadine grape products intake, diet and blood constituents of nondiabetic and type 2 diabetic subjects

NUTRITION, 22(11-12), 1137–1145.

By: A. Banini n, L. Boyd n, J. Allen n, H. Allen n & D. Sauls*

author keywords: type 2 diabetes; antioxidants; muscadine; wine; juice; dealcoholized wine
MeSH headings : Antioxidants / metabolism; Beverages; Blood Glucose / metabolism; Cardiovascular Diseases / diet therapy; Cardiovascular Diseases / metabolism; Diabetes Mellitus, Type 2 / blood; Diabetes Mellitus, Type 2 / diet therapy; Diet; Erythrocyte Membrane / chemistry; Ethanol / administration & dosage; Fatty Acids / analysis; Female; Flavonoids / administration & dosage; Flavonoids / metabolism; Glycated Hemoglobin / metabolism; Humans; Inflammation / diet therapy; Inflammation / metabolism; Insulin / blood; Lipid Metabolism / drug effects; Liver / enzymology; Male; Middle Aged; Phenols / administration & dosage; Phenols / metabolism; Polyphenols; Vitis / chemistry; Wine
TL;DR: Diabetics given MW and Dz-W showed lower levels of blood glucose, insulin, and glycated hemoglobin, indicating better glycemic control, and improved hepatic conditions were noted by decreases in alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotsferase among subjects with T2D given MW, indicatingBetter insulin sensitivity and decreased tendency toward impaired liver function. Fatty acids, diet, and body indices of type II diabetic American whites and blacks and Ghanaians

NUTRITION, 19(9), 722–726.

By: A. Banini n, J. Allen n, H. Allen n, L. Boyd n & A. Lartey*

author keywords: type II diabetes; lipids; lipoproteins; triacylglycerols and cholesterol
MeSH headings : Adult; Aged; Black People; Body Mass Index; Cholesterol / blood; Cross-Cultural Comparison; Diabetes Mellitus, Type 2 / blood; Diabetes Mellitus, Type 2 / ethnology; Diet; Dietary Carbohydrates / administration & dosage; Dietary Carbohydrates / metabolism; Energy Metabolism / physiology; Fatty Acids / blood; Female; Ghana; Humans; Lipoproteins / blood; Male; Middle Aged; North Carolina; Pilot Projects; Triglycerides / blood; White People
TL;DR: The data showed a higher metabolism of carbohydrate for energy in the Ghanaian group than in the other groups, implying that cultural factors may contribute more than ethnic origin to the etiology of diabetes. (via Semantic Scholar)
