2010 journal article

Population density, survival and movement of blue crabs in estuarine salt marsh nurseries

MARINE ECOLOGY PROGRESS SERIES, 407, 135–U150.

By: E. Johnson* & D. Eggleston*

author keywords: Blue crab; Callinectes sapidus; Mark-recapture; Survival; Salt marsh
TL;DR: The observed patterns of abundance, survival and habitat utilization of blue crabs within tidal salt marsh creeks in North Carolina are consistent with the hypothesis that salt marshcreeks are important nurseries for blue crabs, and suggest that crab densities may be even higher in salt marshes than previously thought. Functional response of sport divers to lobsters with application to fisheries management

ECOLOGICAL APPLICATIONS, 18(1), 258–272.

By: D. Eggleston n, D. Parsons n, G. Kellison*, G. Plaia n & E. Johnson n

author keywords: Biscayne National Park; Caribbean spiny lobster; density independence; fishery management; Florida Keys; USA; functional response; ovetfishing; predator-prey theory; recreational fishing impacts; scuba divers
MeSH headings : Animals; Crustacea; Data Collection; Diving / physiology; Fisheries; Recreation
TL;DR: The recreational diver-lobster predator-prey construct in this study provides a useful predictive framework to apply to both recreational and commercial fisheries, and on which to build as management actions are implemented. (via Semantic Scholar)

2003 journal article

Intense removal and non-saturating functional responses by recreational divers on spiny lobster Panulirus argus

MARINE ECOLOGY PROGRESS SERIES, 257(2003), 197–207.

By: D. Eggleston*, E. Johnson*, G. Kellison* & D. Nadeau*

author keywords: Caribbean spiny lobster; density-independence; fishery management; recreational fishing impacts; Florida keys; functional response; maximum likelihood; overfishing; predator-prey theory
TL;DR: The recreational diver-lobster predator-prey construct in this study provides a useful predictive frame- work on which to build as the spatiotemporal scales of measurements expand, management actions are implemented, and the lobster population varies. (via Semantic Scholar)
