Plasmonic phenomena in indium tin oxide and ITO-Au hybrid films

OPTICS LETTERS, 34(18), 2867–2869.

By: S. Franzen n, C. Rhodes n, M. Cerruti n, R. Gerber n, M. Losego n, J. Maria n, D. Aspnes n

TL;DR: The observation of surface-plasmon resonances in indium tin oxide (ITO) thin films is complemented with the effects of hybrid ITO/Au conducting layers where charge densities can be tuned. (via Semantic Scholar)

Interfacial and solvent effects govern the formation of tris(dibenzylidenacetone)dipalladium(0) microstructures

LANGMUIR, 24(15), 7803–7809.

By: D. Leonard n, M. Cerruti n, G. Duscher n & S. Franzen n

TL;DR: The formation of a majority of rods or hexagonal platelets in solution was shown to be determined by the ratio of THF to H(2)O in the solvent, whereas supersaturation effects and interfacial surface tension played a major role in creating the shape of particles formed upon evaporation of Pd(2)(DBA)(3) droplets on a surface. Poly(ethylene glycol) monolayer formation and stability on gold and silicon nitride substrates

LANGMUIR, 24(19), 10646–10653.

TL;DR: X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis is employed to investigate the formation and stability upon aging and heating of PEG monolayers formed on gold and silicon nitride substrates, finding that PEG-thiol SAMs are degraded after less than two weeks of exposure to air and when heated at temperatures as low as 120 degrees C. The role of selection pressure in RNA-mediated evolutionary materials synthesis

JOURNAL OF THE AMERICAN CHEMICAL SOCIETY, 129(49), 15340–15346.

By: S. Franzen n, M. Cerruti n, D. Leonard n & G. Duscher n

MeSH headings : Metal Nanoparticles / chemistry; Metal Nanoparticles / ultrastructure; Microscopy, Electron, Transmission; Palladium / chemistry; RNA / chemistry
TL;DR: This study rigorously test the assumptions, procedures, and results of the only published example of an RNA-mediated evolutionary materials synthesis, and concludes that RNA selections should not be carried out in binary solvent systems, such as tetrahydrofuran (THF) and water. Gold and silica-coated gold nanoparticles as thermographic labels for DNA detection

ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY, 78(10), 3282–3288.

By: M. Cerruti n, M. Sauthier n, D. Leonard n, D. Liu n, G. Duscher n, D. Feldheim n, S. Franzen n

MeSH headings : DNA / analysis; DNA / chemistry; Gold / chemistry; Microscopy, Atomic Force; Microscopy, Electron, Transmission; Molecular Structure; Nanoparticles / chemistry; Nanoparticles / ultrastructure; Polylysine / chemistry; Silicon Dioxide / chemistry; Temperature; Thermography
TL;DR: The infrared emissivity of Au and silica-coated Au nanoparticles (Au NPs) deposited on indium tin oxide substrates was investigated and differences in temperature before and after laser irradiation were found to be directly proportional to the number of particles present on the slide and to the laser power used in the experiment.
