Seasonal Prevalence of Species of Binucleate Rhizoctonia Fungi in Growing Medium, Leaf Litter, and Stems of Container-Grown Azalea

PLANT DISEASE, 95(6), 705–711.

By: W. Copes*, M. Rodriguez-Carres n, T. Toda*, T. Rinehart & M. Cubeta n

TL;DR: The six AGs of BNR are the predominant Rhizoctonia fungi occupying the habitat niches in container-grown azalea, with little change in population frequency and composition from fall to summer; thus, BNR pathogenic and nonpathogenic to azaleo have established a mixed Rhiz octonia community on container- grown azalee. Heterokaryon formation in Thanatephorus cucumeris (Rhizoictonia solani) AG-1 IC

MYCOLOGICAL RESEARCH, 112, 1088–1100.

By: P. Qu*, K. Yamashita*, T. Toda n, A. Priyatmojo*, M. Kubota* & M. Hyakumachi*

author keywords: AFLP analysis; Anastomosis groups; Breeding systems; Buller phenomenon; Incompatability
MeSH headings : Cell Nucleus / metabolism; Hyphae / cytology; Phenotype; Plant Diseases / microbiology; Polymorphism, Restriction Fragment Length; Rhizoctonia / genetics; Rhizoctonia / physiology; Rhizoctonia / ultrastructure; Spores, Fungal / genetics; Spores, Fungal / physiology; Vegetables / microbiology
TL;DR: Results of these experiments suggest that T. cucumeris AG-1 IC is heterothallic and bipolar, and that genetic exchange can occur between homokaryotic and heterokaryosis isolates (Buller phenomenon). (via Semantic Scholar)

Use of single-protoplast isolates in the study of the mating phenomena of Rhizoctonia solani (Thanatephorus cucumeris) AG-1 IC and IA

MYCOSCIENCE, 49(2), 132–137.

By: P. Qu*, A. Aratani*, T. Syoji*, T. Toda n, M. Kubota* & M. Hyakumachi*

author keywords: basidiomycete; heterokaryon formation; single-protoplast; Thantephorus cucumeris
TL;DR: It is indicated that all three isolates of AG-1 IC and one isolate GNSD ofAG-1 IA are heterokaryotic, and that the other two isolate of Tr8 and R59 of AGs of R. solani are homokARYotic. (via Semantic Scholar)

Genetic characterization of binucleate Rhizoctonia species causing web blight on azalea in Mississippi and Alabama

PLANT DISEASE, 91(5), 616–623.

By: T. Rinehart*, W. Copes*, T. Toda n & M. Cubeta n

author keywords: Ceratobasidium; rhododendron
TL;DR: This is the first report of the occurrence of binucleate Rhizoctonia AG-U in the United States, which was recently identified from root and stem infections on miniature rose in Japan. (via Semantic Scholar)

A new subgroup of Rhizoctonia AG-D, AG-D III, obtained from Japanese zoysia grass exhibiting symptoms of a new disease

PLANT DISEASE, 90(11), 1389–1394.

By: T. Hayakawa, T. Toda*, Q. Ping*, J. Mghalu*, S. Yaguchi & M. Hyakumachi*

TL;DR: It is proposed that UN isolates are a new subgroup of Rhizoctonia AG-D, subgroup III, and the name of the disease is "spring-rot" on Japanese zoysia grass. (via Semantic Scholar)

Heterokaryon formation in Thanatephorus cucumeris anastomosis group 2-2 IV

MYCOLOGIA, 98(5), 726–736.

By: T. Toda* & M. Hyakumachi*

author keywords: mating compatibility; somatic compatibility
MeSH headings : Basidiomycota / genetics; Basidiomycota / physiology; Basidiomycota / ultrastructure; Cell Nucleus / metabolism; Hyphae / cytology; Phenotype; Polymorphism, Restriction Fragment Length
TL;DR: Results from these experiments clarified that both homothallic and heterothallic isolates exist in population of T. cucumeris AG 2-2 IV, and that genetic exchange can occur between homoth metallic and heterokaryotic isolates. (via Semantic Scholar)
