2003 journal article

Quantitative analysis of bristle number in Drosophila mutants identifies genes involved in neural development

CURRENT BIOLOGY, 13(16), 1388–1397.

By: K. Norga*, M. Gurganus n, C. Dilda n, A. Yamamoto n, R. Lyman n, P. Patel*, G. Rubin*, R. Hoskins*, T. Mackay n, H. Bellen*

MeSH headings : Animals; Drosophila / anatomy & histology; Drosophila / genetics; Drosophila / growth & development; Gene Expression Regulation, Developmental; Genes, Insect; Mutation; Peripheral Nerves / growth & development
TL;DR: The findings establish the use of quantitative trait analysis for functional genome annotation through forward genetics, and similar analyses of quantitative effects of P element insertions will facilitate the understanding of the genes affecting many other complex traits in Drosophila. The genetic architecture of odor-guided behavior in Drosophila: epistasis and the transcriptome

NATURE GENETICS, 35(2), 180–184.

By: R. Anholt n, C. Dilda n, S. Chang*, J. Fanara n, N. Kulkarni n, I. Ganguly n, S. Rollmann n, K. Kamdar*, T. Mackay n

MeSH headings : Animals; Biotransformation; Drosophila melanogaster / genetics; Epistasis, Genetic; Gene Expression Regulation; Odorants; Smell / physiology; Transcription, Genetic
TL;DR: Quantitative complementation tests of mutations at coregulated genes with the smi mutations showed that in most cases (67%) epistatic interactions for olfactory behavior mirrored epistasis at the level of transcription, thus identifying new candidate genes regulating olfaction behavior. 2001 journal article

Quantitative trait locus mapping of fitness-related traits in Drosophila melanogaster

GENETICAL RESEARCH, 77(1), 107–116.

MeSH headings : Analysis of Variance; Animals; Body Constitution / genetics; Chromosome Mapping; DNA Transposable Elements; Drosophila melanogaster / genetics; Environment; Female; Fertility / genetics; Genetic Markers; Genetic Variation; Genotype; Inbreeding; Male; Quantitative Trait, Heritable; Recombination, Genetic; Sex Factors; Time Factors
TL;DR: There was significant genetic variation segregating in this cross for ovariole number, but not for body size or early fecundity, and Quantitative trait loci affecting female reproductive success and ovarioel number were mapped using a composite interval mapping procedure. Sex-specific quantitative trait loci affecting longevity in Drosophila melanogaster

PROCEEDINGS OF THE NATIONAL ACADEMY OF SCIENCES OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, 94(18), 9734–9739.

By: S. Nuzhdin n, E. Pasyukova n, C. Dilda n, Z. Zeng n & T. Mackay n

MeSH headings : Animals; Drosophila melanogaster / genetics; Female; Genes, Insect; Longevity / genetics; Male; Mutation; Sex Determination Analysis
TL;DR: Late age-of-onset QTL effects are consistent with the mutation accumulation hypothesis for the evolution of senescence, and sex-specificQTL effects suggest a novel mechanism for maintaining genetic variation for lifespan. (via Semantic Scholar)
