Authors' Reply

Statistics in Medicine, 31(29), 4143–4144.

By: R. Tamura*, X. Huang* & D. Boos n

TL;DR: The similarity between the sequential parallel design and the three-phase design published earlier and the score statistics proposed by Huang and Tamura and Ivanova et al had type I error probabilities close to the nominal rate even for sample sizes as low as nD 50, suggesting that exact tests may not be necessary in many settings. AMERICAN STATISTICIAN, 65(4), 213–221.

By: D. Boos n & L. Stefanski n

author keywords: Log p-value; Measure of evidence; Prediction interval; Reproducibility probability
TL;DR: It is shown that p-values exhibit surprisingly large variability in typical data situations, and the use of *, **, and *** to denote levels 0.05, 0.01, and 0.001 of statistical significance in subject-matter journals is about the right level of precision for reporting p- values when judged by widely accepted rules for rounding statistical estimates.
