Natural genetic variation in complex mating behaviors of male Drosophila melanogaster

BEHAVIOR GENETICS, 38(4), 424–436.

By: E. Ruedi n & K. Hughes*

author keywords: courtship; mating; pattern; genetic; Drosophila melanogaster
MeSH headings : Animals; Copulation; Drosophila melanogaster / genetics; Genetic Variation; Male; Motor Activity; Sexual Behavior, Animal / physiology; Vibration; Wings, Animal / physiology
TL;DR: A high-throughput method is developed that allows to document the progression of male courtship and copulation using an ordinal scale (male mating progression scale, MMP), and document natural genetic variation in the temporal pattern of behavior that was not detected using other metrics.
