UGT76F1 glycosylates an isomer of the C7-necic acid component of pyrrolizidine alkaloids in Arabidopsis thaliana

Chen, H.-Y., Li, X., Chapple, C., Dilkes, B., & Li, X. (2023, April 12). PLANT JOURNAL, Vol. 4.

By: H. Chen n, X. Li n, C. Chapple*, B. Dilkes* & X. Li n

author keywords: Arabidopsis thaliana; metabolic GWA; plant specialized metabolism; UDP-glycosyltransferase
TL;DR: Feeding norvaline greatly enhances the accumulation of 2-hydroxy-2-(1-Hydroxyethyl)pentanoic acid glucoside in wild type but not the UGT76F1 knockout mutant plants, providing evidence for an orthologous C7-necic acid biosynthetic pathway in Arabidopsis despite the apparent lack of pyrrolizidine alkaloids. An Efficient Stevia rebaudiana Transformation System and In vitro Enzyme Assays Reveal Novel Insights into UGT76G1 Function

SCIENTIFIC REPORTS, 10(1).

By: Q. Wu n, C. La Hovary n, H. Chen n, X. Li n, H. Eng n, V. Vallejo*, R. Qu n, R. Dewey n

MeSH headings : Alternative Splicing; Glycosyltransferases / biosynthesis; Glycosyltransferases / genetics; Isoenzymes / biosynthesis; Isoenzymes / genetics; Plant Proteins / biosynthesis; Plant Proteins / genetics; Plants, Genetically Modified / enzymology; Plants, Genetically Modified / genetics; Stevia / enzymology; Stevia / genetics; Transformation, Genetic
TL;DR: A highly efficient Agrobacterium-mediated stable transformation system using axillary shoots as the initial explant is reported and evidence suggesting that alternative and/or aberrant splicing may serve to influence the ability of the plant to produce functional UGT76G1 transcripts, and possibly produce enzyme variants within the plant is found. An importin-beta-like protein mediates lignin-modification-induced dwarfism in Arabidopsis

PLANT JOURNAL, 102(6), 1281–1293.

By: C. Panda n, X. Li n, A. Wager n, H. Chen n & X. Li n

author keywords: Arabidopsis thaliana; importin; lignin; MYB4; plant growth; ref8; suppressor mutant
MeSH headings : Adaptor Proteins, Signal Transducing / metabolism; Adaptor Proteins, Signal Transducing / physiology; Arabidopsis / genetics; Arabidopsis / growth & development; Arabidopsis / metabolism; Arabidopsis Proteins / metabolism; Arabidopsis Proteins / physiology; Cell Division; Gene Expression Regulation, Plant; Lignin / metabolism; Repressor Proteins / metabolism; Repressor Proteins / physiology; Transcription Factors / metabolism; Transcription Factors / physiology; beta Karyopherins / metabolism
TL;DR: It is shown that defects in both cell division and cell expansion underlie the dwarfism of an Arabidopsis lignin mutant ref8, and the identification of a GIR1 gene from a suppressor screen is reported, suggesting that the growth rescue effect of gir1 is likely due to compromised MYB4 transport and function. Host-plant induced changes in microbial community structure and midgut gene expression in an invasive polyphage (Anoplophora glabripennis)

SCIENTIFIC REPORTS, 8.

MeSH headings : Acer; Animals; Biodiversity; Coleoptera / genetics; Coleoptera / metabolism; Coleoptera / microbiology; Coleoptera / physiology; Digestion; Fatty Acids / metabolism; Feeding Behavior; Gastrointestinal Microbiome; Gene Expression Regulation; Genes, Insect / genetics; Introduced Species; Populus; Sequence Analysis, RNA
TL;DR: It is shown that feeding in two suitable hosts altered the expression levels of multicopy genes linked to digestion and detoxification, and feeding in a host with documented resistance induced changes in the transcriptome and community beyond what was observed in insects reared in P. nigra.
