Quasi-independence models with rational maximum likelihood estimator

JOURNAL OF SYMBOLIC COMPUTATION, 104, 917–941.

By: J. Coons n & S. Sullivant n

author keywords: Algebraic statistics; Maximum likelihood estimation; Quasi-independence models; Log-linear models; Maximum likelihood degree
TL;DR: This work gives a necessary and sufficient condition on the bipartite graph associated to the model for the MLE to be rational, and uses the Horn uniformization to show that for general log-linear models $\mathcal{M}$ with rational MLE, any model obtained by restricting to a face of the cone of sufficient statistics of $M$ also hasrational MLE. A note on the path interval distance

JOURNAL OF THEORETICAL BIOLOGY, 398, 145–149.

By: J. Coons n & J. Rusinko*

author keywords: Tree metrics; Phylogenetics; Cophylogenetics
MeSH headings : Models, Theoretical; Phylogeny
TL;DR: The path interval distance accounts for global congruence between locally incongruent trees and provides a lower bound for the nearest neighbor interchange distance, indicating that it should play a role in phylogenomics. (via Semantic Scholar)
