By: C. Briggs*, K. Smith*, A. Piper n, E. Huitt*, C. Spears*, M. Quiles*, M. Ribeiro n, M. Thomas*, D. Brown n, R. Hernandez n

MeSH headings : Animals; Antibodies, Viral / immunology; Chlorocebus aethiops; Dengue / immunology; Dengue / prevention & control; Dengue / virology; Dengue Vaccines / administration & dosage; Dengue Vaccines / genetics; Dengue Vaccines / immunology; Dengue Virus / classification; Dengue Virus / genetics; Dengue Virus / immunology; Dengue Virus / physiology; Host Specificity; Humans; Species Specificity; Vaccination; Vaccines, Attenuated / administration & dosage; Vaccines, Attenuated / genetics; Vaccines, Attenuated / immunology; Viral Envelope Proteins / administration & dosage; Viral Envelope Proteins / genetics; Viral Envelope Proteins / immunology
TL;DR: A live attenuated viral (LAV) vaccine capable of eliciting a strong immune response in African green monkeys (AGMs) in a single dose is generated, and this study suggests that viremia and antibody response in AGMs may be similar to those seen in DENV infection in humans. VIROLOGY, 435(2), 406–414.

By: R. Vancini n, L. Kramer*, M. Ribeiro n, R. Hernandez n & D. Brown n

author keywords: Flavivirus; Virus entry; Mosquitoes; Electron microscopy
MeSH headings : Animals; Cell Membrane / ultrastructure; Cell Membrane / virology; Chlorocebus aethiops; Culex / virology; Culicidae / virology; Dengue Virus / pathogenicity; Dengue Virus / ultrastructure; Flavivirus / pathogenicity; Microscopy, Electron; Vero Cells / virology; Virus Internalization; West Nile virus / pathogenicity; West Nile virus / ultrastructure
TL;DR: The results show that Dengue and West Nile viruses may infect cells by a mechanism that involves direct penetration of the host cell plasma membrane as proposed for alphaviruses. (via Semantic Scholar)

By: K. Smith*, K. Nanda*, C. Spears*, M. Ribeiro n, R. Vancini n, A. Piper n, G. Thomas*, M. Thomas*, D. Brown n, R. Hernandez n

MeSH headings : Aedes; Amino Acid Sequence; Animals; Antibodies, Neutralizing / blood; Antibodies, Viral / blood; Cell Line; Dengue Virus / genetics; Dengue Virus / immunology; Dengue Virus / pathogenicity; Dengue Virus / physiology; Host Specificity; Mice; Mice, Inbred BALB C; Models, Molecular; Molecular Sequence Data; Mutant Proteins / genetics; Mutant Proteins / immunology; Mutant Proteins / metabolism; Sequence Deletion; Viral Envelope Proteins / genetics; Viral Envelope Proteins / immunology; Viral Envelope Proteins / metabolism
TL;DR: Novel host-range mutants of DV2 were created that have preferential growth in insect cells and impaired infectivity in mammalian cells and may be applied to many other insect-borne viral diseases for which no current effective therapies exist. (via Semantic Scholar)

A high capacity Alphavirus heterologous gene delivery system

VIROLOGY, 390(2), 368–373.

By: K. Nanda n, R. Vancini n, M. Ribeiro n, D. Brown n & R. Hernandez n

author keywords: Alphavirus; Gene delivery; Morphological variants
MeSH headings : Animals; Cell Line; Cricetinae; Culicidae; Gene Transfer Techniques; Genetic Vectors; Microscopy, Electron, Transmission; Mutation, Missense; Sindbis Virus / genetics; Viral Proteins / genetics; Virion / ultrastructure
TL;DR: The first generation prototype larger vehicle, described here, carries a approximately 18 kb cDNA insert, however it is conceivable that RNA as large as 32 kb could be transcribed and packaged, and the resulting cargo containing virus particles are infectious. (via Semantic Scholar)
