Optimal two-stage dynamic treatment regimes from a classification perspective with censored survival data

BIOMETRICS, 74(4), 1180–1192.

By: R. Hager*, A. Tsiatis n & M. Davidian n

author keywords: Doubly robust; Inverse probability weighting; Optimal treatment regime; Sequential multiple assignment randomized trial; Support vector machine; Value search
MeSH headings : Acute Disease; Algorithms; Biometry / methods; Computer Simulation; Decision Support Techniques; Humans; Leukemia; Outcome Assessment, Health Care / methods; Outcome Assessment, Health Care / standards; Randomized Controlled Trials as Topic; Support Vector Machine; Survival Analysis
TL;DR: A method for estimation of an optimal regime involving two decision points when the outcome of interest is a censored survival time is proposed, based on maximizing a locally efficient, doubly robust, augmented inverse probability weighted estimator for average outcome over a class of regimes. Frequency and Predictors of Internal Mammary Artery Graft Failure and Subsequent Clinical Outcomes Insights From the Project of Ex-vivo Vein Graft Engineering via Transfection (PREVENT) IV Trial

CIRCULATION, 133(2), 131–138.

author keywords: coronary artery bypass; mammary arteries
MeSH headings : Aged; Cardiac Catheterization; Cardiovascular Agents / therapeutic use; Combined Modality Therapy; Comorbidity; Coronary Angiography; Coronary Disease / diagnostic imaging; Coronary Disease / drug therapy; Coronary Disease / surgery; Coronary Restenosis / diagnostic imaging; Coronary Restenosis / epidemiology; Diabetes Complications / epidemiology; Diabetes Complications / surgery; Double-Blind Method; Female; Graft Occlusion, Vascular / epidemiology; Humans; Internal Mammary-Coronary Artery Anastomosis / adverse effects; Internal Mammary-Coronary Artery Anastomosis / statistics & numerical data; Kaplan-Meier Estimate; Male; Middle Aged; Multicenter Studies as Topic; Myocardial Infarction / epidemiology; Postoperative Complications / mortality; Proportional Hazards Models; Randomized Controlled Trials as Topic; Reoperation; Treatment Failure
TL;DR: IMA failure was common and associated with higher rates of repeat revascularization, and patients with intermediate LAD stenosis or with an additional bypass graft to the diagonal branch had increased risk for IMA failure, raising concerns about competitive flow and the benefit of coronary artery bypass grafting in intermediate L AD stenosis without functional evidence of ischemia.
