Type and duration of water stress influence host selection and colonization by exotic ambrosia beetles (Coleoptera: Curculionidae)

FRONTIERS IN INSECT SCIENCE, 3.

By: C. Ranger*, M. Parajuli*, S. Gresham n, J. Barnett*, S. Villani n, J. Walgenbach n, F. Baysal-Gurel*, J. Owen Jr, M. Reding*

author keywords: flood stress; drought stress; secondary insects; wood-boring beetles; Scolytinae; Xyleborini; Xylosandrus germanus; Anisandrus maiche
TL;DR: The results indicate that acute and severe drought stress does not predispose C. florida to infestation, but flood stress and the duration of flooding influence ambrosia beetle host selection and colonization. (via Semantic Scholar)

Optimizing Use of DMI Fungicides for Management of Apple Powdery Mildew Caused by Podosphaera leucotricha in New York State

PLANT DISEASE, 106(4), 1226–1237.

By: D. Strickland*, S. Villani n & K. Cox*

author keywords: disease management; fungi; tree fruits
MeSH headings : Ascomycota; Fungicides, Industrial / pharmacology; Malus; New York; Plant Diseases / prevention & control
TL;DR: It was observed that treatments of flutriafol and myclobutanil consistently had the lowest incidences of powdery mildew compared to difenoconazole and fenbuconazole, and it was hypothesize that differences in DMI efficacy may be due to each fungicides' water solubility and lipophilicity characteristics, and thus their ability to move systemically in the host or more easily penetrate the surface of germinating conidia. A Genome Resource for Several North American Venturia inaequalis Isolates with Multiple Fungicide Resistance Phenotypes

PHYTOPATHOLOGY, 110(3), 544–546.

By: F. Lichtner*, W. Jurick*, K. Ayer*, V. Gaskins*, S. Villani n & K. Cox*

author keywords: disease control and pest management; genetics and resistance; techniques
MeSH headings : Ascomycota; Fungicides, Industrial; Malus; Phenotype; Plant Diseases
TL;DR: This is the first presentation of multiple, high quality, well annotated genomes of four North American V. inaequalis isolates having both sensitive and multiple fungicide resistance phenotypes, envision that these isolates will enable investigations into fungicides resistance mechanisms, exploring fungal virulence factors, and delineating phylogenomic relationships amongst apple scab isolates from around the world.
