Tom Zagenczyk is a Professor of Management in the Department of Management, Innovation and Entrepreneurship in the Poole College of Management at North Carolina State University (PhD, Katz Graduate School of Business at the University of Pittsburgh, 2006). Prior to NC State, he was a faculty member at Clemson University for 16 years. He has taught undergraduate, MBA, and PhD courses in Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management at Clemson University, West Virginia University and the University of Pittsburgh and consulted or provided training for companies including Michelin, Waffle House, Greenville Health System, Nestle, and others. Tom’s research addresses three main questions: (1) how does social influence from coworkers affect how employees think and behave at work?; (2) how does an employee’s position in the organization’s social network affect their behavior and performance?; (3) what can organizations do to help employees deal with stressors (such as abusive supervision, coworker exclusion, and broken promises) at work? He tries to answer these questions by bringing together sociological (e.g., social networks) and psychological (e.g., personality) approaches to understand the workplace in a more comprehensive fashion. Tom has published in management, applied psychology, and human resource management journals, including some on the Financial Times 50 list (Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Management, Organizational Behavior & Human Decision Processes, MIS Quarterly, Journal of Management Studies, Journal of Business Ethics). He has also been part of research teams that have been awarded more than $8 million in funding from the National Science Foundation and the Australian Research Council. He was awarded the 2012 Emerging Scholar Research Excellence Award and the 2021 Senior Scholar Research Excellence Award for the College of Business at Clemson, was nominated for the 2016 Governor’s Young Researcher Award for Excellence in Scientific Research, and has won several best paper awards from different conferences and journals. Tom served as the Editor-in-Chief of the journal Group & Organization Management (GOM) from 2020-2022 and is currently an Associate Editor for GOM and on several other editorial boards, including the Journal of Management.
