Super Charge Separation and High Voltage Phase in NaxMnO2

Wang, Y., Wiaderek, K., Sang, X., Borkiewicz, O., Chapman, K., LeBeau, J., … Li, X. (2018, October 21). Advanced Functional Materials.

By: Z. Chen*, M. Weyland*, X. Sang n, W. Xu n, J. Dycus n, J. LeBeau n, A. D'Alfonso*, L. Allen*, S. Findlay*

author keywords: Scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM); Energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectroscopy; Atomic-resolution mapping; Elemental quantification
topics (OpenAlex): Electron and X-Ray Spectroscopy Techniques; X-ray Spectroscopy and Fluorescence Analysis; Electronic and Structural Properties of Oxides
TL;DR: Quantitative agreement on an absolute scale is demonstrated between experiment and simulation for two-dimensional, atomic-resolution elemental mapping via energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and it is emphasized that simple column-by-column analysis requires a choice of sample thickness that compromises between being thick enough to yield a good signal-to-noise ratio and thin enough that the overwhelming majority of the EDX signal derives from the column on which the probe is placed, despite strong electron scattering effects.
