Suspect screening and prioritization of chemicals of concern (COCs) in a forest-water reuse system watershed

Science of The Total Environment, 694, 133378.

By: M. Hedgespeth n, N. Gibson n, J. McCord*, M. Strynar*, D. Shea n & E. Nichols n

author keywords: HRMS; Suspect screening; Wastewater; Forest; Exposome
TL;DR: Assessing chemical features in ground- and surface waters from a watershed where secondary-treated wastewater is irrigated onto 900 ha of temperate forest offers a more holistic view of chemicals that contribute to the exposome, suggesting that though wastewater may be a source of chemicals to ground and surface Waters on-site, dissipation of wastewater-derived features likely occurs with limited off-site surface water export by the forested land treatment system. author keywords: Ecosystem services; enterprise budget; investment analysis; optimum stand management; site quality rating; SRWC-PEAM
MeSH headings : Biodegradation, Environmental; Biomass; Cost-Benefit Analysis; Ecosystem; Populus
TL;DR: An assessment model was developed and tested for assessing the feasibility of SRWCs on lands targeted for ecosystem-service enhancements based on land conditions, species, and stand and economic variables in the southeastern USA and found poplar stands had the greatest biomass and the highest returns although returns were poor using current reported regional delivered prices. Tree Water Use, Water Use Efficiency, and Carbon Isotope Discrimination in Relation to Growth Potential in Populus deltoides and Hybrids under Field Conditions

FORESTS, 10(11).

By: C. Maier*, J. Burley*, R. Cook n, S. Ghezehei n, D. Hazel n & E. Nichols n

author keywords: poplar (Populus); hybrid; water-use efficiency; sap flow; productivity; carbon isotope discrimination; stomatal conductance
TL;DR: It is suggested that clone selection and management activities that increase tree biomass production will likely increase tree and stand WUE, and more research is needed to discern the underlying hydraulic mechanisms responsible for the higher WUE exhibited by large trees and distinct clones. GLOBAL ECOLOGY AND CONSERVATION, 20.

By: Y. Chen n, Y. Zhang*, J. Cao*, S. Fu*, S. Hu n, J. Wu*, J. Zhao*, Z. Liu*

author keywords: Power generation planning; Unit commitment; Energy system optimization; Seasonal demand forecasts; Mathematical programming
