Environmental Entomology, 11(4), 949–950.

By: S. Risch*, R. Wrubel* & D. Andow*

EVOLUTION OF BLACK-TIPPED TAILS IN WEASELS - PREDATOR CONFUSION

AMERICAN NATURALIST, Vol. 119, pp. 126–131.

By: R. Powell*

TL;DR: It is hypothesized that the black tail tip will draw the attention of a potential predator, especially a diurnal avian predator that hunts primarily by sight, away from the weasel's body to its tail, and reduce predation on weasels by other predators. (via Semantic Scholar)
