In vitro biomechanical and histological assessment of pilot hole diameter for positive-profile external skeletal fixation pins in canine tibiae

VETERINARY SURGERY, 25(6), 453–462.

By: E. Clary n & S. Roe n

MeSH headings : Animals; Biomechanical Phenomena; Bone Resorption / etiology; Bone Resorption / veterinary; Dog Diseases / etiology; Dogs / surgery; Equipment Design; External Fixators / adverse effects; External Fixators / standards; External Fixators / veterinary; Fractures, Bone / surgery; Fractures, Bone / veterinary; Image Processing, Computer-Assisted; In Vitro Techniques; Tibia / cytology; Tibia / injuries; Tibia / surgery
TL;DR: It was concluded that predrilling a PH whose diameter approximates, but does not exceed the inner diameter of the positive profile pin will not only improve initial pin stability compared with no pred rilling, but it will also reduce microstructural damage that may lead to excessive bone resorption and premature pin loosening. Nonendoscopic antegrade percutaneous gastrostomy: The effect of preplacement gastric insufflation on tube position and intra-abdominal anatomy

JOURNAL OF VETERINARY INTERNAL MEDICINE, 10(1), 15–20.

By: E. Clary n, E. Hardie n, W. Fischer n & A. Kyles n

MeSH headings : Abdomen / surgery; Animals; Dogs / surgery; Female; Gastrostomy / methods; Gastrostomy / veterinary; Insufflation / methods; Insufflation / veterinary; Male; Stomach / surgery
TL;DR: It was concluded that the blind percutaneous gastrostomy technique is made safer by insufflating the stomach immediately prior to pushing the gastric wall laterally into contact with the parietal peritoneum. (via Semantic Scholar)
