RESISTANCE TO METHYL PARATHION IN CHAOBORUS-ASTICTOPUS(DIPTERA-CHAOBORIDAE)FROM CLEAR LAKE, CALIFORNIA

JOURNAL OF ECONOMIC ENTOMOLOGY, 71(5), 772–773.

By: C. Apperson*, D. Yows & C. Madison

TL;DR: In 1975, three treatments of methyl parathion applied to Clear Lake at rates of 3.3 ppb failed to control Chaoborus astictopus Dyar and Shannon, and periodic sampling revealed that a 36X increase in the density of early instars and a 6X increase of overwintering 4th instars had occurred in 1975 relative to 1974. PROBING BEHAVIOR OF APHIS-GOSSYPII (HEMIPTERA HOMOPTERA APHIDIDAE) ON RESISTANT AND SUSCEPTIBLE MUSKMELON

JOURNAL OF ECONOMIC ENTOMOLOGY, 71(1), 13–16.

By: G. Kennedy*, D. Mclean & M. Kinsey

TL;DR: Electronic recording of aphid probing revealed that on the resistant plants a significantly greater percentage of the probes led to stylet contact with the phloem sieve cells, but a smaller proportion of the sieve cell contacts resulted in ingestion than was the case on susceptible plants. MOLECULAR-WEIGHT, SUBUNITS, AND MULTIPLE FORMS OF GLUTATHIONE S-TRANSFERASE FROM HOUSE-FLY

INSECT BIOCHEMISTRY, 8(5), 337–348.

By: N. Motoyama n & W. Dauterman n

TL;DR: It was suggested that the multiple forms of the house fly glutathione S -transferase observed in electrophoresis, or eluted from CM-cellulose columns, may be due to dissociation, aggregation, or binding with bromophenol blue which alters the molecular weight and the molecular charge of the enzyme. FIELD EVALUATION OF ACARICIDES FOR CONTROL OF OLIGONYCHUS-UNUNGUIS (ACARINA-TETRANYCHIDAE) IN FRASER FIR PLANTATIONS

JOURNAL OF ECONOMIC ENTOMOLOGY, 71(1), 113–114.

By: W. Nettleton n, F. Hain n & R. Monroe n

TL;DR: Thirteen acaricides were evaluated for the control of the spruce spider mite in Fraser fir Christmas tree plantations in northwest North Carolina and dimethoate, ethion, dicofol, and carbophenothion gave effective control when applied at the same rate by both hydraulic sprayer and mist blower. ENDOGENOUS INHIBITORS OF GLUTATHIONE S-TRANSFERASES IN HOUSE-FLIES

PESTICIDE BIOCHEMISTRY AND PHYSIOLOGY, 9(3), 255–262.

By: N. Motoyama n, A. Kulkarni n, E. Hodgson n & W. Dauterman n

TL;DR: In vitro experiments demonstrated that quinones produced by mushroom tyrosinase did indeed inhibit glutathione S-transferase, suggesting quinone as the possible endogenous inhibitiors of glutathion transferase. (via Semantic Scholar)

STANDARDIZED WITHIN-TREE SAMPLING FOR POPULATIONS OF DENDROCTONUS-FRONTALIS (COLEOPTERA-SCOLYTIDAE)

ENVIRONMENTAL ENTOMOLOGY, 7(1), 157–164.

By: F. Hain n, W. Mcclelland n, D. Pope n, P. Pulley n, J. Foltz n & R. Coulson n

TL;DR: The objective of this study was to evaluate the applicability of procedures for sampling and estimating within-tree populations of Dendroctonus frontalis in North Carolina and found that tree geometry-proportional density function procedures are applicable in 2 widely separated regions of D. frontalis. REDUCED GLUTATHIONE IN HOUSEFLY - CONCENTRATION DURING DEVELOPMENT AND VARIATION IN STRAINS

INSECT BIOCHEMISTRY, 8(4), 311–316.

By: M. Saleh n, N. Motoyama n & W. Dauterman n

TL;DR: The glutathione content in various strains of adult housefly was found to be higher than that previously reported in houseflies, other insects, ticks and certain mammalian tissues. (via Semantic Scholar)
