Roadside soils show low plant available zinc and copper concentrations

ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION, 209, 30–37.

By: N. Morse*, M. Walter*, D. Osmond n & W. Hunt n

author keywords: Highway; Zinc; Copper; Soil pollution; Traffic
MeSH headings : Agriculture; Copper / analysis; Copper / metabolism; Environmental Monitoring; North Carolina; Plants / metabolism; Soil / chemistry; Soil Pollutants / analysis; Soil Pollutants / metabolism; Vehicle Emissions / analysis; Zinc / analysis; Zinc / metabolism
TL;DR: This study shows an often overlooked variable, site age, should be included when considering roadside pollution accumulation, and Zinc and Cu were more strongly associated with %C, than traffic load. (via Semantic Scholar)

By: S. Roe n & J. Biskup

MeSH headings : Animals; Anterior Cruciate Ligament / surgery; Dogs / surgery; Stifle / surgery; Suture Techniques / veterinary
TL;DR: TR and pLFS had similar ability to resist CTT but neither restored the biomechanical properties of an intact CCL. (via Semantic Scholar)

Three-Dimensional Simulation of Ultrasound-Induced Microalgal Cell Disruption

APPLIED BIOCHEMISTRY AND BIOTECHNOLOGY, 178(6), 1184–1195.

By: M. Wang n, W. Yuan n & A. Hale n

author keywords: Microalgae; Ultrasound; Cell disruption; Cavitation
MeSH headings : Fluorescence; Fresh Water; Microalgae / cytology; Models, Theoretical; Ultrasonics
TL;DR: The simulated local ultrasound pressure at any given location (x, y, and z) was found to correlate with cell disruption of a freshwater alga, Scenedesmus dimorphus, represented by the change of algal cell particle/debris concentration, chlorophyll-a fluorescencedensity, and Nile red stained lipid fluorescence density. Maintenance measures for preservation and recovery of permeable pavement surface infiltration rate - The effects of street sweeping, vacuum cleaning, high pressure washing, and milling

Journal of Environmental Management, 169, 132–144.

By: R. Winston n, A. Al-Rubaei*, G. Blecken*, M. Viklander* & W. Hunt n

MeSH headings : Construction Materials; Environmental Monitoring; Hydrocarbons / chemistry; Permeability; Porosity; Surface Properties; Sweden; Water / chemistry; Water Quality
TL;DR: For porous asphalt maintenance, industrial hand-held vacuum cleaning, pressure washing, and milling were increasingly successful at recovering the SIR, and street sweepers employing suction were shown to be preferable to mechanical sweepers for PICP. (via Semantic Scholar)

Modeling bubble dynamics and radical kinetics in ultrasound induced microalgal cell disruption

ULTRASONICS SONOCHEMISTRY, 28, 7–14.

By: M. Wang n & W. Yuan n

author keywords: Acoustic cavitation; Bubble dynamics; Cell disruption; Microalgae; Radical kinetics
MeSH headings : Chlorophyll / metabolism; Chlorophyll A; Kinetics; Microalgae / cytology; Microalgae / metabolism; Models, Biological; Pressure; Ultrasonic Waves
TL;DR: C cumulative collapse pressure of bubbles was used to quantify acoustic disruption of a freshwater alga, Scenedesmus dimorphus, and a marine algae, Nannochloropsis oculata, and the strong correlations between CCP and the intracellular lipid fluorescence density, chlorophyll-a fluorescencedensity, and cell particle/debris concentration were found, which suggests that the developed models could accurately predict acoustic cell disruption.
