Differential responses of soil bacterial communities to long-term N and P inputs in a semi-arid steppe

GEODERMA, 292, 25–33.

By: N. Ling*, D. Chen*, H. Guo*, J. Wei*, Y. Bai*, Q. Shen, S. Hu n

author keywords: Semi-arid steppe; Nor P inputs; Soil bacterial diversity; Soil bacterial community structure; Illumine Miseq sequencing
TL;DR: The results suggest that the below-ground bacterial communities are more sensitive to N inputs, but P inputs can also play an important role in bacterial niche differentiation in pots with higher N or P input. (via Semantic Scholar)

Particulate Formation from a Copper Oxide-Based Oxygen Carrier in Chemical Looping Combustion for CO2 Capture

ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY, 51(4), 2482–2490.

Contributors: F. He n, W. Linak*, S. Deng* & F. Li n

MeSH headings : Carbon Dioxide; Copper; Methane; Oxidation-Reduction; Oxygen
TL;DR: The generation rate for particulates <10 μm was found to decrease with progressive cycles over as-prepared oxygen carrier particles and then reach a steady state, and the surface of the oxygen carrier is found to be coarsened due to a Kirkendall effect, which also explains the enrichment of Cu on particle surfaces and in small particles. Biochar amendments increase the yield advantage of legume-based intercropping systems over monoculture

AGRICULTURE ECOSYSTEMS & ENVIRONMENT, 237, 16–23.

By: L. Liu n, Y. Wang*, X. Yan*, J. Li*, N. Jiao* & S. Hu n

author keywords: Biochar; Legume-based intercropping; Yield and nutrient uptake; N-15-dilution; N fixation and N transfer
TL;DR: It is indicated that amending soil with biochar can amplify the benefits of legume-based intercropping by enhancing legume N fixation and facilitating N transfer from legume plants to co-existing cereal crops. (via Semantic Scholar)

Lamb production responses to grass grazing in a companion crop system with corn silage and oversowing of yellow oat in a tropical region

AGRICULTURAL SYSTEMS, 151, 1–11.

By: C. Pariz*, C. Costa*, C. Crusciol*, A. Castilhos*, P. Meirelles*, R. Roca*, R. Pinheiro*, F. Kuwahara* ...

author keywords: Animal carcass; Avena byzantina; Integrated crop-livestock system; Live weight gain; Urochloa brizantha; Total operating cost
TL;DR: The pasture formation for lamb finishing in a semi-feedlot system, the reduction of silage and concentrate intake, and greater live weight and carcass gains per hectare were key attributes for improving the economic viability of this integrated crop-livestock system. (via Semantic Scholar)

Taxonomic resolution is a determinant of biodiversity effects in arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal communities

JOURNAL OF ECOLOGY, 105(1), 219–228.

author keywords: arbuscular mycorrhiza; competition; diversity; ecosystem function; functional complementarity; niche; taxonomic level
TL;DR: It was found that the effect of biodiversity of AMF taxa depended on taxonomic resolution, and plant performance was positively promoted by AMF family richness, while no effect was found for fungal species richness. (via Semantic Scholar)
