Heat waves imposed during early pod development in soybean (<i><scp>G</scp>lycine max</i>) cause significant yield loss despite a rapid recovery from oxidative stress

Global Change Biology, 21(8), 3114–3125.

TL;DR: This study shows that short high-temperature stress events that reduce photosynthesis and increase oxidative stress resulted in significant losses to soybean production in the Midwest, U.S. and suggests that to mitigate heat wave-induced yield loss, soybean needs improved reproductive and photosynthetic tolerance to high but increasingly common temperatures. Environmental vulnerability and phosphorus fractions of areas with pig slurry applied to the soil

Journal of Environmental Quality, 44(1), 162–173.

By: R. Couto*, M. Santos*, J. Comin*, L. Martini*, L. Gatiboni*, S. Martins*, P. Filho*, G. Brunetto*

Contributors: R. Couto*, M. Santos*, J. Comin*, L. Martini*, L. Gatiboni*, S. Martins*, P. Filho*, G. Brunetto*

TL;DR: Vulnerability to P contamination was mainly influenced by soil P concentrations and soil losses in the studied areas, and the P index based on Hedley's fractionation P forms resulted in a more accurate risk scoring of the studied Areas than the Pindex based on the concentration of available P extracted by Mehlich-1. Changes in Macrophage Gene Expression Associated with Leishmania (Viannia) braziliensis Infection

PLOS ONE.

Daniel Restrepo-Montoya

MeSH headings : Cholesterol / biosynthesis; Gene Expression Profiling; Gene Expression Regulation; Humans; Leishmania braziliensis / physiology; Leishmaniasis, Cutaneous / genetics; Leishmaniasis, Cutaneous / parasitology; Macrophages / metabolism; Macrophages / parasitology; Oligonucleotide Array Sequence Analysis; Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction; Reproducibility of Results; U937 Cells
TL;DR: Differential transcriptional results suggest a negative regulation of the genetic regulatory network involved in cholesterol biosynthesis, which contrasts with those from studies involving other Leishmania species at earlier infection stages, where gene up-regulation for this metabolic pathway has been reported.
