Differences between wheat genotypes in damage from freezing temperatures during reproductive growth

EUROPEAN JOURNAL OF AGRONOMY, 74, 164–172.

By: D. Livingston n, T. Tuong, T. Isleib n & J. Murphy n

author keywords: Wheat; Spring freeze; Heading; Infra red thermography; Supercooling; Barrier
TL;DR: Cereal crops in the reproductive stage of growth are considerably more susceptible to injury from freezing temperatures than during their vegetative growth stage in the fall, indicating that vegetative freezing tolerance is not a good predictor of spring-freeze tolerance. Control of brown patch (Rhizoctonia solani) in tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea Schreb.) by host induced gene silencing

PLANT CELL REPORTS, 35(4), 791–802.

By: B. Zhou n, A. Bailey*, C. Niblett* & R. Qu n

author keywords: Brown patch; Disease resistance; HIGS; Rhizoctonia solani; RNAi; Tall fescue
MeSH headings : Blotting, Northern; Blotting, Southern; Databases, Genetic; Disease Resistance; Festuca / microbiology; Gene Silencing; Genes, Essential; Genes, Fungal; Host-Pathogen Interactions; Plant Diseases / microbiology; Plants, Genetically Modified; Polymerase Chain Reaction; RNA, Small Interfering / metabolism; Rhizoctonia / genetics; Rhizoctonia / physiology; Saccharomyces cerevisiae / genetics; Transgenes
TL;DR: This research demonstrates resistance to brown patch disease achieved by the application of host induced gene silencing and is the first case that RNAi constructs of pathogen genes introduced into a host plant can confer resistance against a necrotrophic fungus. (via Semantic Scholar)

Phytotoxicity and Benzoxazinone Concentration in Field Grown Cereal Rye (Secale cereale L.)

International Journal of Agronomy, 2016.

By: C. La Hovary n, D. Danehower, G. Ma n, C. Reberg-Horton n, J. Williamson n, S. Baerson, J. Burton n

TL;DR: The observed decrease in phytotoxic potential and plant BX levels in rye later in the season appears to correlate with the transition from vegetative to reproductive growth. (via Semantic Scholar)
