2001 journal article

Dual interaction of a geminivirus replication accessory factor with a viral replication protein and a plant cell cycle regulator

VIROLOGY, 279(2), 570–576.

By: S. Settlage n, A. Miller n, W. Gruissem* & L. Hanley-Bowdoin n

MeSH headings : Cell Cycle; Geminiviridae / physiology; Plant Proteins / metabolism; Protein Binding; Retinoblastoma Protein / metabolism; Viral Proteins / metabolism; Virus Replication
TL;DR: Experiments reported here established that AL3 also interacts with a plant homolog of the mammalian tumor suppressor protein, retinoblastoma (pRb), and analysis of truncated AL3 proteins indicated that pRb and AL1 bind to similar regions of AL3, whereas AL3 oligomerization is dependent on a different region of the protein. A geminivirus replication protein interacts with the retinoblastoma protein through a novel domain to determine symptoms and tissue specificity of infection in plants

EMBO JOURNAL, 19(13), 3485–3495.

By: L. Kong n, B. Orozco, J. Roe, S. Nagar, S. Ou, H. Feiler, T. Durfee, A. Miller ...

author keywords: AL1; cell cycle; differentiation; plant DNA virus; pRb
MeSH headings : Antigens, Polyomavirus Transforming / metabolism; Base Sequence; DNA Primers; Geminiviridae / isolation & purification; Geminiviridae / metabolism; Geminiviridae / physiology; Plants / virology; Protein Binding; Retinoblastoma Protein / metabolism; Viral Proteins / metabolism; Virus Replication
TL;DR: The pRBR binding domain of AL1 is mapped between amino acids 101 and 180 and two mutants are identified that are differentially impacted for AL1–pRBR interactions during geminivirus infection of plants. (via Semantic Scholar)

Functional domains of a geminivirus replication protein

Journal of Biological Chemistry, 272(15), 9840–9846.

By: B. Orozco n, A. Miller n, S. Settlage n & L. Hanley-Bowdoin n

MeSH headings : Amino Acid Sequence; DNA / metabolism; Electrophoresis, Polyacrylamide Gel; Molecular Sequence Data; Peptide Mapping; Promoter Regions, Genetic; Protein Conformation; Viral Proteins / chemistry; Viral Proteins / genetics; Virus Replication
TL;DR: To identify the tomato golden mosaic virus AL1 domains that mediate protein oligomerization, DNA binding, and DNA cleavage, a series of truncated AL1 proteins were produced in a baculovirus expression system and assayed for each activity. (via Semantic Scholar)

RRB1 and RRB2 encode maize retinoblastoma-related proteins that interact with a plant D-type cyclin and geminivirus replication protein

MOLECULAR AND CELLULAR BIOLOGY, 17(9), 5077–5086.

By: R. Ach*, T. Durfee*, A. Miller n, P. Taranto*, L. HanleyBowdoin n, P. Zambryski*, W. Gruissem*

MeSH headings : Amino Acid Sequence; Antigens, Viral, Tumor / metabolism; Binding Sites; Cell Cycle Proteins; Cyclins / metabolism; DNA Helicases / metabolism; DNA-Binding Proteins; Genes, Plant; Humans; Molecular Sequence Data; Nuclear Proteins / genetics; Nuclear Proteins / metabolism; Plant Proteins / chemistry; Plant Proteins / genetics; Plant Proteins / metabolism; Protein Binding; Retinoblastoma Protein / chemistry; Trans-Activators / metabolism; Zea mays / genetics
TL;DR: The cloning of cDNAs from two Zea mays genes, RRB1 and RRB2, that encode RB-related proteins are reported, suggesting that G1 regulation in plant cells is controlled by a mechanism which is much more similar to that found in mammalian cells than that in yeast. (via Semantic Scholar)
