A liquid cytokinin pulse induces adventitious shoot formation from Douglas-fir cotyledons

Plant Cell Reports (Online), 10, 156–160.

By: B. Goldfarb*, G. Howe*, L. Bailey*, S. Strauss* & J. Zaerr*

TL;DR: High-concentration, 2-h liquid pulses of N6-benzylaminopurine and thidiazuron on adventitious bud and shoot formation were tested in cotyledons of Douglas-fir; one of the best treatments yielded more cotYledons with buds, and more buds per cotygledon, than when cytokinins were incorporated into the growth medium. INFLUENCE OF RAINFALL, DRIP IRRIGATION, AND INOCULUM DENSITY ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF PHYTOPHTHORA ROOT AND CROWN ROT EPIDEMICS AND YIELD IN BELL PEPPER

PHYTOPATHOLOGY, 81(8), 922–929.

By: J. Ristaino*

TL;DR: Peppers (Capsicum annuum) were grown in three fields in which main plots were irrigated either on a more frequent or less frequent basis, and soil in subplots was left uninfested or was infested 5-6 wk after transplanting with one of three inoculum densities of Phytophthora capsici. By: J. Ristaino*, K. Perry & R. Lumsden

author keywords: BIOCONTROL; BIOLOGICAL CONTROL; LYCOPERSICON-ESCULENTUM; SOLAR HEATING
TL;DR: Soil solarization in combination with the introduction of the fungal antagonist Gliocladium virens was evaluated as a potential disease management strategy for control of southern blight caused by Sclerotium rolfsii on tomatoes in North Carolina. (via Semantic Scholar)

Effects of natural enemies on the rate of herbivore adaptation to resistant host plants

Entomologia Experimentalis Et Applicata, 58(1), 1–14.

author keywords: HOST-PLANT RESISTANCE; PREDATORS; PARASITES; HERBIVORE ADAPTATION
TL;DR: Results indicate that natural enemies could increase or decrease the rate of herbivore adaptation, which is generally expected to be slower than adaptation to high levels of resistance, even in the presence of natural enemies. (via Semantic Scholar)
