Comparison of sinking velocity, swimming velocity, rotation and path characteristics among six marine dinoflagellate species

Marine Biology, 113(2), 319–328.

By: D. Kamykowski n, R. Reed n & G. Kirkpatrick*

TL;DR: Observations of decreasing cell rotation:translation ratio and increasing cell drag with increasing cell size supported the hypothesis that the dinoflagellate flagellar apparatus generates maximum swimming velocity at intermediate cell sizes, but an alternate analysis supported the hypotheses that swimming velocity increases with cell size. By: N. Morrison n, M. Marshall*, M. Dykstra n & J. Levine n

TL;DR: Populations of the eastern oyster Crassostrea virginica from 36 locations off the coast of North Carolina were examined cytologically in the fall of 1989 for Haplosporidium nelsoni (MSX), and systemic Perkinsus marinus infections were noted in oysters from 26 of the locations.
