THE PATHO-PHYSIOLOGY OF THE OCULAR MICROENVIRONMENT .1. PRELIMINARY-REPORT ON THE POSSIBLE INVOLVEMENT OF COPPER IN OCULAR INFLAMMATION

CURRENT EYE RESEARCH, 2(12), 883–885.

By: M. Mcgahan* & L. Bito*

MeSH headings : Animals; Aqueous Humor / analysis; Copper / adverse effects; Copper / analysis; Copper Sulfate; Disease Models, Animal; Eye Proteins / analysis; Inflammation / chemically induced; Mechlorethamine / adverse effects; Rabbits; Uveitis / chemically induced; Uveitis / physiopathology; Vitreous Body / analysis
TL;DR: A better understanding of trace element metabolism is clearly required to further elucidate the mechanism of ocular inflammation and associated tissue damage. (via Semantic Scholar)

SOME OBSERVATIONS ON THE MAGNESIUM-METABOLISM OF THE RABBIT LENS

EXPERIMENTAL EYE RESEARCH, 36(1), 67–73.

By: M. Mcgahan*, B. Chin* & P. Bentley*

MeSH headings : Animals; Calcimycin / pharmacology; In Vitro Techniques; Lens Cortex, Crystalline / drug effects; Lens Nucleus, Crystalline / drug effects; Lens, Crystalline / drug effects; Lens, Crystalline / metabolism; Magnesium / metabolism; Male; Osmolar Concentration; Rabbits
TL;DR: Incubation of lenses in solutions containing EDTA or following freezing and thawing suggested that much of the Mg is present in a bound form, and adjustment of the external Mg level in the presence of A-23187 indicated that the internal 'free' Mg concentration was about 3 mM, suggesting that about 35% of the lenticular magnesium is bound. ANALYTICAL BIOCHEMISTRY, 135(1), 186–192.

By: M. Mcgahan n & L. Bito*

MeSH headings : Animals; Aqueous Humor / analysis; Bufo marinus; Cats; Copper / analysis; Copper / blood; Copper / cerebrospinal fluid; Female; Graphite; Male; Rabbits; Species Specificity; Spectrophotometry, Atomic / methods; Vitreous Body / analysis

CALCIUM-METABOLISM OF THE RABBIT LENS

EXPERIMENTAL EYE RESEARCH, 36(1), 57–66.

By: M. Mcgahan*, B. Chin* & P. Bentley*

MeSH headings : Animals; Calcium / metabolism; Calcium-Binding Proteins / metabolism; Hydrogen-Ion Concentration; In Vitro Techniques; Lens, Crystalline / drug effects; Lens, Crystalline / metabolism; Male; Osmolar Concentration; Rabbits
TL;DR: Efflux of Ca from the lens was unchanged, under experimental conditions, by metabolic inhibitors, by EGTA, verapamil, TFP and vanadate, and in the presence of metabolic inhibitors (iodoacetate plus cyanide) lenticular Ca rises. (via Semantic Scholar)
