Developmental exposure to pesticides that disrupt retinoic acid signaling causes persistent retinoid and behavioral dysfunction in zebrafish

Hawkey, A. B., Shekey, N., Dean, C., Asrat, H., Koburov, R., Holloway, Z. R., … Levin, E. D. (2024, January 17). TOXICOLOGICAL SCIENCES, Vol. 1.

By: A. Hawkey*, N. Shekey n, C. Dean*, H. Asrat*, R. Koburov*, Z. Holloway*, S. Kullman n, E. Levin*

author keywords: zebrafish; development; neurobehavioral toxicology; retinoic acid receptors
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that early developmental exposure to environmental toxicants that interfere with RA signaling cause short as well as long-term behavioral disruption in a well-established zebrafish behavioral model and the meaning of the RA adverse outcome pathway is expanded, indicating that observed effects likely correspond with the nature of underlying homeostatic effects. Sex steroid hormones, the estrous cycle, and rapid modulation of glutamatergic synapse properties in the striatal brain regions with a focus on 17β -estradiol and the nucleus accumbens

STEROIDS, 201.

author keywords: Estradiol; Sex differences; Estrous cycle; Nucleus accumbens; Estrogen receptors
TL;DR: There is strong evidence regarding estradiol action upon glutamatergic synapse function in female NAcs MSNs and call for more research regarding other hormones and striatal regions. (via Semantic Scholar)

Maternal adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and offspring imprinted gene DMR methylation at birth

EPIGENETICS, 19(1).

By: A. Vidal n, D. Sosnowski*, J. Marchesoni n, C. Grenier*, J. Thorp*, S. Murphy*, S. Johnson*, B. Schlief*, C. Hoyo n

author keywords: ACEs; pregnancy; methylation; imprinted genes; race
TL;DR: Findings from this study suggest that maternal ACEs, discrimination, and financial stress are associated with newborn aberrant methylation in imprinted gene regions. (via Semantic Scholar)
