<i>IPD3</i>, a master regulator of arbuscular mycorrhizal symbiosis, affects genes for immunity and metabolism of non-host <i>Arabidopsis</i> when restored long after its evolutionary loss

PLANT MOLECULAR BIOLOGY, 114(2).

author keywords: Mycorrhizae; Symbiosis; Non-mycorrhizal; Genetic engineering; Systems biology; Plant transcriptomics
TL;DR: Interestingly, the effect of expressing IPD3 in Arabidopsis and knocking it out in Lotus was strongest in plants not exposed to AMF, which is revealed to be due to changes in IPD3 genotype causing a transcriptional state, which partially mimics AMF exposure in non-inoculated plants. Cell-material interactions in 3D bioprinted plant cells

Madison, I., Tahir, M., Broeck, L. V., Phan, L., Horn, T., & Sozzani, R. (2024, February 1).

TL;DR: A study in which 3D bioprinting parameters, such as needle gauge, extrusion pressure, and scaffold type, were all tested in 3D bioprinted Tobacco BY-2 cells revealed an optimal range of extrusion pressures and needle gauges that resulted in an optimum cell viability. (via Semantic Scholar)

Long- and short-read sequencing methods discover distinct circular RNA pools in <i>Lotus japonicus</i>

Budnick, A., Franklin, M. J., Utley, D., Edwards, B., Charles, M., Hornstein, E. D., & Sederoff, H. (2024, January 20). PLANT GENOME, Vol. 1.

TL;DR: This is the first identification of L. japonicus circRNA and provides a resource for further characterization of their function in gene regulation and the comparison of methodologies and technologies to sequence, identify, analyze, and validate circRNA from plant tissues will enable further research to characterize the function and biogenesis of circRNA in L. japonicus. Morphological hallmarks of dopaminergic neurodegeneration are associated with altered neuron function in Caenorhabditis elegans

NEUROTOXICOLOGY, 100, 100–106.

author keywords: Dopaminergic degeneration; C. elegans; Swimming-induced paralysis; Microfluidics; Quantitative image analysis
TL;DR: It is shown that nematodes with dopaminergic dendrite degeneration markers, such as blebbing or breakage, paralyze at higher rates in a dopamine solution, providing evidence that dopaminergic neurodegeneration morphologies are correlated with functional neuronal outputs.
