By: J. Gadsby*, P. Keyes* & C. Bill*

MeSH headings : Animals; Chorionic Gonadotropin / pharmacology; Corpus Luteum / drug effects; Corpus Luteum / physiology; Estradiol / pharmacology; Estrogens / physiology; Female; Luteolysis; Medroxyprogesterone / analogs & derivatives; Medroxyprogesterone / pharmacology; Medroxyprogesterone Acetate; Ovulation; Placenta / physiology; Pregnancy; Pregnancy, Animal; Progesterone / blood; Rabbits
TL;DR: Results provide further evidence that estrogen is essential for normal luteal function in the pregnant rabbit and that the rabbit placenta maintained by the progestagen MPA has no direct luteotropic activity. (via Semantic Scholar)

SOME OBSERVATIONS ON THE MAGNESIUM-METABOLISM OF THE RABBIT LENS

EXPERIMENTAL EYE RESEARCH, 36(1), 67–73.

By: M. Mcgahan*, B. Chin* & P. Bentley*

MeSH headings : Animals; Calcimycin / pharmacology; In Vitro Techniques; Lens Cortex, Crystalline / drug effects; Lens Nucleus, Crystalline / drug effects; Lens, Crystalline / drug effects; Lens, Crystalline / metabolism; Magnesium / metabolism; Male; Osmolar Concentration; Rabbits
TL;DR: Incubation of lenses in solutions containing EDTA or following freezing and thawing suggested that much of the Mg is present in a bound form, and adjustment of the external Mg level in the presence of A-23187 indicated that the internal 'free' Mg concentration was about 3 mM, suggesting that about 35% of the lenticular magnesium is bound. CALCIUM-METABOLISM OF THE RABBIT LENS

EXPERIMENTAL EYE RESEARCH, 36(1), 57–66.

By: M. Mcgahan*, B. Chin* & P. Bentley*

MeSH headings : Animals; Calcium / metabolism; Calcium-Binding Proteins / metabolism; Hydrogen-Ion Concentration; In Vitro Techniques; Lens, Crystalline / drug effects; Lens, Crystalline / metabolism; Male; Osmolar Concentration; Rabbits
TL;DR: Efflux of Ca from the lens was unchanged, under experimental conditions, by metabolic inhibitors, by EGTA, verapamil, TFP and vanadate, and in the presence of metabolic inhibitors (iodoacetate plus cyanide) lenticular Ca rises. (via Semantic Scholar)

EFFECT OF CYTOCHALASIN-D ON SMOOTH-MUSCLE CONTRACTION

CELL MOTILITY AND THE CYTOSKELETON, 3(5-6), 545–551.

By: K. Adler*, J. Krill*, T. Alberghini* & J. Evans*

MeSH headings : Animals; Cytochalasin D; Cytochalasins / pharmacology; Cytoskeleton / drug effects; In Vitro Techniques; Male; Muscle Contraction / drug effects; Muscle, Smooth / drug effects; Muscle, Smooth / ultrastructure; Rats; Rats, Inbred F344
TL;DR: The results indicate that a percentage of actin in smooth muscle cells is not permanently in the filamentous "F" form, but is part of the G:F actin system of the cell, labile to polymerization:depolymerization, which could depend on the proper functioning of the F:G actin "treadmill."
