A XERORADIOGRAPHIC STUDY OF OSTEOCHONDROSIS IN THE METACARPOPHALANGEAL REGION OF 2 FOALS

VETERINARY RADIOLOGY, 32(1), 26–34.

By: J. Smallwood n & E. Kelly n

author keywords: OSTEOCHONDROSIS; XERORADIOGRAPHY; METACARPOPHALANGEAL REGION; HORSE
TL;DR: Using xeroradiographic techniques, both metacarpophalangeal regions of six quarter horse foals were radiographed at 1 day of age and at 2 week intervals until they were 6 weeks old, and then at 4-week intervalsuntil they were 12 months old to demonstrate progression of the osteochondrosis (OCH) lesions. EFFECTS OF A ZINC-DEFICIENT DIET ON TISSUE ZINC CONCENTRATIONS IN RABBITS

JOURNAL OF ANIMAL SCIENCE, 69(12), 4876–4882.

author keywords: ZINC; RABBITS; EYES
MeSH headings : Administration, Oral; Animals; Bone and Bones / chemistry; Brain Chemistry; Eye / chemistry; Hair / chemistry; Lens, Crystalline / chemistry; Lens, Crystalline / pathology; Liver / chemistry; Male; Rabbits / growth & development; Rabbits / metabolism; Testis / chemistry; Testis / pathology; Thymus Gland / pathology; Zinc / administration & dosage; Zinc / analysis; Zinc / blood; Zinc / deficiency
TL;DR: Young male New Zealand White rabbits given a diet containing 2 ppm of Zn (Zn-deficient diet) ceased to grow after 5 wk and exhibited alopecia, skin lesions, and frequent pasteurella infections, which were not observed in rabbits fed the other diets. (via Semantic Scholar)

SHORT-CHAIN FATTY-ACIDS INDUCE REVERSIBLE INJURY OF PORCINE COLON

DIGESTIVE DISEASES AND SCIENCES, 36(10), 1459–1468.

By: R. Argenzio n & D. Meuten n

author keywords: RESTITUTION; ACETATE; LACTATE; H-ION; MUCOSAL DEFENSE; EPITHELIAL CELL MIGRATION
MeSH headings : Acetates / pharmacology; Animals; Colon / drug effects; Colon / metabolism; Colon / pathology; Dose-Response Relationship, Drug; Fatty Acids, Volatile / metabolism; Female; Hydrogen-Ion Concentration; In Vitro Techniques; Intestinal Absorption / physiology; Intestinal Mucosa / drug effects; Intestinal Mucosa / metabolism; Intestinal Mucosa / pathology; Ion Exchange; Lactates / pharmacology; Mannitol / pharmacokinetics; Permeability / drug effects; Sodium Chloride / pharmacology; Swine; Theophylline / pharmacology
TL;DR: The results suggest that colonic mucosal injury is possible under conditions that may be present during carbohydrate malabsorption syndromes and provide evidence that the process of surface reepithelialization may be of central importance in the defense and repair of the Colonic mucosa during such acid-induced injury. Acute stimulatory effects of prostaglandin F2α on serum progesterone concentrations in pregnant and pseudopregnant pigs

Prostaglandins, 41(5), 419–432.

By: J. Gadsby n, C. Smith n & G. Almond n

MeSH headings : Animals; Dinoprost / pharmacology; Female; Kinetics; Luteinizing Hormone / blood; Pregnancy; Pregnancy, Animal / blood; Progesterone / blood; Pseudopregnancy / blood; Reference Values; Swine
TL;DR: It is indicated that PGF2 alpha-injection produces a rapid and transient increase in serum progesterone concentrations which may result from a Rapid and direct stimulatory action of P GF2 alpha on porcine luteal cell progester one synthesis/secretion in vivo. (via Semantic Scholar)
