2008 journal article

Effect of substrate temperature on mechanical properties of calcium phosphate coatings

JOURNAL OF BIOMEDICAL MATERIALS RESEARCH PART B-APPLIED BIOMATERIALS, 85B(1), 60–67.

By: T. Blalock n, X. Bai n, R. Narayan n & A. Rabiei n

MeSH headings : Adhesiveness; Calcium Phosphates / chemistry; Coated Materials, Biocompatible / chemistry; Durapatite / chemistry; Materials Testing; Surface Properties; Temperature; Titanium / chemistry
TL;DR: It is concluded that depositing FGHA coatings would better be started at 550-650 degrees C to maintain superior properties of the film at the interface and the residual stresses caused by different Coefficient of Thermal Expansions between the substrate and coatings are not the only factor controlling the bonding strength and mechanical properties of these samples. Electrochemical dopamine detection: Comparing gold and carbon fiber microelectrodes using background subtracted fast scan cyclic voltammetry

JOURNAL OF ELECTROANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY, 614(1-2), 113–120.

By: M. Zachek n, A. Hermans*, R. Wightman* & G. McCarty n

author keywords: dopamine; carbon fiber microelectrode; Au microelectrode
TL;DR: Dopamine detection on gold microelectrodes was characterized and compared to P-55 carbon fiber micro electrodes of the same geometry, using background subtracted fast scan cyclic voltammetry, and selectivity to dopamine, in comparison to several other neurotransmitters and their derivatives, is described. High-accuracy peptide mass fingerprinting using peak intensity data with machine learning

JOURNAL OF PROTEOME RESEARCH, 7(1), 62–69.

By: D. Yang n, K. Ramidssoon, E. Hamlett n & M. Giddings n

author keywords: ion suppression; mass spectrometry; peptide mass fingerprinting; protein identification; peak intensity
MeSH headings : Artificial Intelligence; Data Interpretation, Statistical; Peptide Mapping / methods; Proteins / analysis; Spectrometry, Mass, Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption-Ionization; Tandem Mass Spectrometry / methods
TL;DR: A machine learning approach is developed that exploits the intensity of a peptide-ion peak is directly correlated with its sequence to significantly improve peptide mass fingerprint (PMF) accuracy based on training data sets from both true-positive and false-positive PMF searches. Robust principal component analysis and clustering methods for automated classification of tissue response to ARFI excitation

ULTRASOUND IN MEDICINE AND BIOLOGY, 34(2), 309–325.

By: F. Mauldin n, H. Zhu*, R. Behler n, T. Nichols* & C. Gallippi n

author keywords: acoustic radiation force impulse ultrasound; automatic classification; atherosclerosis; robust principal component analysis; robust K-means clustering
MeSH headings : Acoustics; Algorithms; Animals; Computer Simulation; Iliac Artery / diagnostic imaging; Iliac Artery / metabolism; Image Interpretation, Computer-Assisted / methods; Immunohistochemistry; Principal Component Analysis; Swine; Ultrasonography
TL;DR: This work suggests that automatic identification of tissue structures exhibiting similar displacement responses to ARFI excitation is possible, even in the context of outlier profiles, and represents an important first step toward automatic correlation of ARFI data to spatially matched immunohistochemistry.
